May, 2008

I was diagnosed with a detached retina on May 8 and had surgery in Halifax on May 9. All went well except that I will be out of action for about two months until I can see again. Gas is used to hold the retina in place and this disipates over a six week period. Because the bubbles were so pretty, I did a drawing after 30 days and I might attempt painting this later....See drawing

November, 2007

As I did last December, I will have a one-man show in the West Gallery at The Playhouse, running from November 1, 2006 until December 3, 2007. Open Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM and evenings of performances. Maybe there are some gift ideas here but, regardless, I hope you can come see my show. ...See announcement   ...See photos

October, 2007

I will attend a week-long painting workshop in Putney, VT with Albert Handell and Anita Louise West. Although I'm excited about working with these gifted painters, the bonus is that I will get to paint with my idol, Richard Schmid, on the Saturday following the workshop. I'm excited!...Update: See recap here>

August, 2007

After painting the 13th hole at The Algonquin Golf Course & Academy and producing limited-edition prints for distribution through the Fairmont Algonquin's Gift Shop and Pro Shop, I was asked by the Hotel to paint their signature hole, the 12th. I have not only completed the painting ...read more >

January, 2007

Although sales weren't brisk by any means, I felt my one-man show at The Playhouse in December was very successful. As this was only my second solo exhibit, I learned a lot and was gratified by the comments left in the guest book. See photos here >

July, 2006

Things have been really hopping lately from a distributiuon standpoint! As a typical artist, I guess I'd much rather be painting than doing the business end of things but a lot has recently happened all at once. In early October last year, I painted "The Algonquin's 13th" and I have just released ...read more >

June, 2006

I've been working with oil colors this spring after using acrylics for the last five years. Acrylics are fast-drying and tend to create a lot of hard or sharp edges. My hope is to generally soften my work to create the moods and effects I see in the landscape.

March, 2006

The Fredericton Society of Artists will exhibit representative works by its members in both the East and West Galleries of The Playhouse from March 3 until April 3, 2006. I will exhibit my 14" x 11" graphite drawing, "Watchful", in this show. Please stop by Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM.

September, 2005

The summer got away from me this year somehow. After barely playing any golf the last fourteen years, I joined The Lynx at Kingswood Park in 2004 and had a great time re-learning the game and seeing old friends. This year, although I play almost exclusively for exercise, I finished 3rd in the NB Seniors Championship and......read more >

May/June, 2005

Friends, old and new, are invited to view an exhibition of my recent paintings at The Playhouse. Each piece in this exhibition of representational landscape works was painted on location--en plein air (literally, in the open air)--and most were painted in a single session. Painting, for me, is a way of learning about things, many of which are ordinary and which I have seen daily for many years. I'm often astounded at what I find as I paint. It is this experiential discovery that I love about painting directly from life. The experience is real, something I can't get from working from a lifeless photo or in a comfortable studio. This exhibition, entitled "My Fredericton" opens May 11 and runs until June 30,2005.

April, 2005

January, 2004

I built a studio for myself in January, 2004 by commandeering the family room. It is great to have a space that is my own where I can leave things set up and ready to go at a moment's notice. See my new studio. I still have lots to do to get everyting right, but the space is all ready to work in and the lighting is great--natural north light by day and good daylight fluorescents by night.
